On today’s episode we shine the light on the Hypervigilance Cycle and its effect on first responders. According to the International Public Safety Association (https://joinipsa.org/ ), Hypervigilance is “the necessary manner of viewing the world from a threat-based perspective, having the mindset to see the events unfolding as potentially hazardous.” For first responders, being constantly aware of their surroundings can save their life or someone else’s. It is a way for them to protect others from danger and allow them to quickly evaluate a stressful situation and respond swiftly. Being aware of this hypervigilance cycle and learning to manage it is integral. Setting a healthy routine early in the career is the best way to maintain it. However, putting one into practice even later in a career is just as important. It is very beneficial for families and friends to become educated on the hypervigilance cycle in order to offer support and encourage balancing interests and hobbies. So, come ride along with us!
